Spanish in France

Hello all of my wonderful family!

I love you all so so much! Your emails have given me so much joy and laughing, and I love it! I love you! 🙂 Daniel, I am so proud of you and your new army-job working on helicoptors. I have the most awesome brother in the world. 🙂

But yeah! I won’t write much today because we have some things planned, like going to the rainy beach and aquarium in Biarritz. And pizza! There is some delicious French food here, but I still love pizza. OH! Also, this week, we’re making tons of delicious food for all of our friends of the church for Thanksgiving. I’m making homemade mac and cheese, and I have never been so excited for Thanksgiving in my life!

This week was so great, though! One day, we went down to a town called Hendeye, which is right on the border of Spain, to go visit some friends and older members of the church. And, since it’s way far down, Soeur Bailey and I decided to prepare and learn some Spanish phrases! For all of you Spanish speakers out there, hats off to you. Spanish makes not very much sense to my brain at the moment, but it’s beautiful.

So we travelled down and visited this older family with a Spanish last name. And we ring the bell to their apartment, but nothing happens for some minutes. We were about to leave, when the door to the apartement complex magically opened! And we walked up the stairs (having no idea where we were going, but following the Spirit) and knocked on the very top door. This older Spanish man opens the door, and we ask him about his wife in very little spanish (he spoke no French), and we learned that she had passed away three years ago. Or months.. I don’t know the different words for those. But! We were able to console him! And you could see in his eyes that it touched him that people still cared about him. His wife was a member, but I don’t think he was. I want to go back and visit him again to let him know how much he is loved.

When we left, we were feeling the miraculous miracle of that occasion. And it made me think that, if we just prepare ourselves the best that we can, the Lord will help us and do the rest. 🙂 It was amazing!

So let’s just prepare ourselves well for all that is to come, and we will be protected and taken-care of.

I love you all!

Sister Smith
